floating gardens
Aztec Chinampas was the most important development in the Aztec farming. That techniques helps the Aztec reclaim the swampy land that has developed around the lake. This is referred to “Floating Gardens," To create Chinampas, they dug canals and piled the mud from the canals onto large mats. They had to be tied into posts in order to be held in place. They planted trees in the corners of the mats to hold, then permanently into place. This helped the Aztecs, who lived in the middle of lakes, grow enough food to feed their population. This all is called Chinampas and they grew corn, flowers and vegetables.
In this picture, you can see that they planted trees on the canals so that they can be permanently into place. They're planted more of them.
